From Herby-K’s in Shreveport to Antoine’s in New Orleans, Louisiana is lucky to have so many incredible restaurants that have stood the test of time. If you find yourself in the mood for some succulent seafood with a side of fabulous views, then make your way over to this historic restaurant in Louisiana.
You’ll find Middendorf’s right off of the Manchac Bridge in Manchac, Louisiana.
There are actually two locations, and the other one is in Slidell. The Maniac location is the original, and it’s been in operation since 1934. Louis Middendorf and his wife, Josie, ran the restaurant for many years before a new family took over in 2007. Staying true to the "soul" of the restaurant, many recipes have remained the same while adding a few new items here and there. The Slidell location was opened in 2019, and no matter which location you visit, you'll find a similar menu with a similar atmosphere.
There's seating both indoors and outside, and both come with beautiful views.
Seafood is the name of the game here, in all forms. Warm yourself up with a hearty bowl of gumbo...
...or feast on shrimp, fried alligator, oysters, or stuffed crab.
We know alligator isn't technically seafood, but it tends to get grouped into that category in Louisiana!
Middendorf's is known for its signature dish: thinly fried catfish.
Paper thin and perfectly crispy, a trip to Middendorf's isn't complete without trying this out. It's available in two sizes, so you can get a small order for the table or a platter all to yourself.
The sunsets here are dazzling.
Middendorf's even has a sunset timer on its website!
Check out the Middendorf's website for a full menu and to keep track of the sunset so you can time your visit perfectly!
