Have you ever loved cheese so much that you opened a cheese shop? That’s exactly what Richard and Danielle Sutton did when they opened St. James Cheese Company in Louisiana. They’ve been bringing artisanal and farmhouse cheeses to New Orleans since 2006, and if you love cheese then you need to swing by and give them a try.
There are two St. James Locations in New Orleans.
Both the downtown and uptown locations are fairly similar.
You’ll have ample seating and a fairly similar menu at both.
The menu covers a wide range of small plates, sides, and sandwiches all featuring the star of the show: cheese
From French brie to Danish bleu cheese, each menu item draws out the flavors of artisanal cheeses for flavors that are almost too good to be true.
Pictured above is the Hook’s Cheddar sandwich, one of their most popular sandwiches. The hearty sandwich is stacked with house-smoked turkey, Hook’s Creamery two-year-aged cheddar, avocado, tomato, and fresh basil. Yum!
The grilled cheese will really take you to new levels.
This isn’t your childhood grilled cheese. Real Swiss Gruyere 1655 cheese is married with caramelized onions and pressed on Wildflower Bakery sourdough bread. One bite of this and you’ll change how you make grilled cheese at home forever.
Speaking of home, you're going to want to check out their display of cheeses before you leave.
Stock up your cheese drawer with all sorts of fabulous finds. You can always ask the knowledgeable folks behind the counter for a recommendation or two.
And don't forget about the spreads. They can make or break a charcuterie board.
Pick up some jams, jellies, and more to take your next spread from good to great.
For more information, check out the St. James Cheese Company website, and don't forget to give them a follow on Facebook, too. While you're in New Orleans, be sure to take a stroll along the scenic Riverwalk.
