When it comes to ice cream, there’s no substitute. You want to grab a scoop that’s rich, creamy, and made the old-fashioned way, and that’s why this one particular ice cream parlor in Louisiana has stood the test of time.
Borden’s Ice Cream Shoppe is the last one of its kind.
In the 1940s, Borden’s opened ice cream parlors all across the country, including this one located in Lafayette. When Flora Levy, the owner at the time, passed away in 1981, The UL Lafayette (then known as University of Southwestern Louisiana) inherited the parlor.
In 2009 the Lerille family purchased the parlor from the university and began renovating it.
They kept the original look and feel of the parlor, keeping that nostalgic atmosphere that has kept customers coming back for decades.
Generations of locals have enjoyed a scoop here. It’s one of those places where you grew up going to as a kid, and then have the honor of taking your kids here as well.
Borden's still serves ice cream the old-fashioned way, and they have dozens of flavors to choose from.
You’ll find all the classics like chocolate and vanilla, but also whimsical flavors like cotton candy and birthday cake.
From sundaes to dipped cones, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu here.
They also serve hot dogs and nachos, so there's truly something for everyone here at this historic gem.
