Often times, when you are looking for a place to stop and eat on a trip, you might gravitate towards larger towns where you know what you're getting. However, if you would take a chance on some of the smaller restaurants hiding around Kansas, you might be pleasantly surprised. These tiny but mighty restaurants in Kansas are packed full of flavor, if only you'll try it.
1. Houdini's Pizza - 401 E D Ave., Kingman, KS
From what you see here, Houdini is a magician with pizza. You'll find that their flavor combinations aren't always what you'd expect, but they're always good.
2. Timken Bar and Grill - KS-96, Timken, KS
This red building surrounded by what seems like nothing, but inside you'll find a warm home-away-from-home full of great food and even better people. They're only open on Fridays and Saturdays though, so make sure you time your trip right!
3. Toot's Drive-In - 1251 State Highway 99 # K, Howard, KS
Just take one look at these loaded fries and tell me (honestly) that you don't want a bite. If you somehow resist these, you definitely won't get past their burgers!
4. Blazers - 131 N Center St., Gardner, KS
Blazers is another small town burger joint that you won't want to miss either. Pair it with ice cream and fries and you've got yourself a classic meal.
5. Nelson's Landing - 107 Erpelding St., Leonardville, KS
Nelson's Landing used to be a lot more well known, but most people could easily pass it by on the street. It's been open since 2007 as a sports bar, and you'll soon find that they care about their food as much as they do sports. Just look at that dinner plate.
6. Sweden Creme - 610 E South St., Mankato, KS
Did someone ask for ice cream? Sweden Creme is a little-known haven for ice cream lovers in Mankato, where you can get a sundae in a cone or a regular vanilla. Either way, you're set.
7. Main Street Dugout - 223 Main St., Grainfield, KS
Main Street Dugout makes some amazing pies and pizza, but after these bierocks, you might not want anything else. They're just irresistible to Kansans, I guess.
8. Bob's Drive-In - 801 E Carthage St., Meade, KS
Bob's is a classic place to eat classic food and you will be amazed at the selection. When you're feeling nostalgic, an order of fried okra and a hot dog can bring you back to the good ol' days.
9. Red Rooster Cafe - 524 West 14th St., Harper, KS
This teeny cafe in Harper is passed by all the time, but if you'd only step inside, you'd realize how much care is put into every dish of the day.
