Sometimes you might find yourself in, we don't know, a weird mood. A whole mood? Something like that. In this case, you might decide you want to go get a bite to eat, but you don't want to bother with typical fast food or restaurant fare. You want something interesting and different, so we went ahead and did some searching on your behalf for the next time this offbeat jazz decides to strike. Check out this short list of six of the best unique restaurants in Indiana that offer something just a little different from the rest. Yum!
1. Dick’s Last Resort
Dick's Last Resort has some pretty delicious food, which is great, even though it's not really the #1 draw to this place. What makes Dick's different, then, you might ask? Well, it's in the name: Dick's Last Resort has a service staff. And they're there. We guess. Don't expect the friendliest service, though. That's the whole shtick. So bring your sense of humor, and don't be like the people on Google Local leaving bad reviews for having "terrible servers." You'll get the joke, we promise.
2. The Inferno Room
The Inferno Room is a fascinatingly spooky and yet simultaneously exotic stop for drinks, dinner, and then some. This interesting dark tiki-themed restaurant in Indiana is like a beach day from the depths of doom thanks to the abundant use of reds, oranges, and yellows, but we promise even just the drinks alone are worth the fiery atmosphere. And, yeah, the fiery atmosphere is worth it, too.
3. The Oakmont
The Oakmont is another Indianapolis staple that's sure to offer a vibe as modern and posh as its menu. This gorgeous bar and restaurant in Indiana prides itself on its overall aesthetic that's as delicious as the food, and we think the Oakmont nails it. Enjoy everything from delectable appetizers and starters to sandwiches, burgers, tacos, steaks and chops, and so much more.
4. Tyler’s Tender Railroad Restaurant
Everyone knows at least one person who's, like, really into trains. And we don't blame them: trains are pretty interesting, no matter which way you look at them, and that's why Tyler's Tender Railroad Restaurant is our next favorite wacky place to eat in Indiana. The entire restaurant is railroad-themed, and there are little tiny trains that meander throughout the restaurant, too. We're pretty sure you won't find any other places to eat in Indiana that are anything like Tyler's Tender.
5. Apocalypse Burger
Oh, Apocalypse Burger, how do we love thee? Let us count the ways. This stop might actually be one of the all-time best burger places in Indiana, despite its overall weird themes and oddball sense of humor (which we can't get enough of). If you're looking for an incredibly amazing burger with a side of weird, you're going to love it at Apocalypse Burger. We are obsessed.
6. The Heidelberg Haus
The famous Heidelberg Haus is one of the best places to get German food in Indiana, and its interior decor is as busy as its menu. You won't know what to even look at first - there's too much to fixate on. That being said, you'd better fixate on that menu, because we promise it's absolutely legendary.
There you are: some of our favorite weird, offbeat, or otherwise unique restaurants in Indiana to add to your dining bucket list for the next few months. What are some of your favorite oddball places to eat in Indiana? Let us know.
