Indiana has no shortage of restaurants offering tasty fare, and you can never go wrong with the tangy, sweet goodness of bbq. Here's a restaurant that not only serves up delicious bbq meals, but it also has a quirky, fun pirate theme.
From the outside, you'd never think that Big Hoffa's Smokehouse is a pirate-themed restaurant offering up some of the best bbq in the state. It's located at 800 E, Main Street in Westfield, Indiana.
The pirate theme of this restaurant pays homage to the Caribbean, where bbq gets many of its flavors. The tropical atmosphere lends a unique theme to this large, airy dining room.
You'll find swashbuckling mementos, flags, and other pirate booty throughout the restaurant. Much of it has been donated by customers over the years.
The pirate theme is fun, but the food is the real reason to visit, and the smells from the smoker in the yard draw crowds that line up outside the restaurant.
Big Hoffa's pork and beef is smoked for 25 to 30 hours in the outdoor smoker, and the result is pure heaven. You have to start your meal with The Hoffanator - French fries covered with mac n cheese, baked beans and pulled pork, covered in ranch dressing and bbq sauce.
The Buccaneer is another house specialty that will have you coming back time and again. You'll get a full half-pound of pulled pork piled high on the bun, with some creamy coleslaw to cool it off a bit.
The El Segundo is a unique combination of jasmine rice, French fries, mac n cheese, pulled pork, onions, lime, cilantro and spicy mayo. Once you bite into this specialty, you'll be addicted.
Your meal isn't over until you've tried some of owner Adam Hoffman's homemade peach cobbler, which is topped with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce. If you're getting dinner for a crowd, you can order a half-pan of this delicious dessert that will feed 8-10 people, and they'll love you forever.
Visit Big Hoffa's Smokehouse six days a week. It's closed on Monday, but you can stop by Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from Noon to 8 p.m.
