Sometimes in life, you want a sandwich as big as your head. Even though Illinois is full of amazing foods, the novelty of an oversized specialty — particularly when done right — can create fans from all over. Although it can be impractical or kitschy, that's exactly what I love about a restaurant that can serve up something massively unique. And this giant pork tenderloin sandwich in Sadorus, Illinois is big enough to feed an entire family.
Just outside Champaign off of I-57 is the small town of Sadorus. Though the tiny town is home to less than 400 residents, it's become nationally recognized for serving up one of the country's biggest pork tenderloin sandwiches.
The pub has both an outdoor patio and indoor dining, with a theme that gives a nod to law enforcement, first responders, and military personnel.
As one of the only restaurants in town, Buford's is a popular dining spot and local watering hole that's also beloved by motorcyclists.
But whether it's a biker gathering or a family dinner outing, one dish is sure to be ordered over and over again: Buford's famous pork tenderloin.
So large it's often served on a tray, this whopping sandwich is no match for a normal plate. By comparison, its bun seems comically small.
The meat patty can be served breaded or charbroiled and comes in two sizes, depending on your level of hunger and bravery.
For $16.50, you can attempt to tackle the elephant ear-sized large portion, or for just $10, go with a mini version that's just a quarter of the size.
Add a side of waffle fries, onion rings, or cheese curds to make it a full meal, or simply go for the gold with the perfectly fried and crispy patty. Then, decide if you want to share — or keep it all for yourself.
