In today's world of constant change, it can sometimes feel like there's a new restaurant, or one closing down, just about every week. From corporate takeovers to closures to buyouts, it seems like few restaurants manage to stay in business for decades, much less owned by the same family. One restaurant in Connecticut that bucks that trend is the beloved Consiglio's. When it was founded by Italian immigrants in 1938, they probably didn't imagine that their restaurant would still be in the same family two generations later!
Consiglio's originally opened under the name The Big Apple. It was founded by two immigrants who came to New Haven from Italy seeking a better life and business opportunities.
When the restaurant moved a few doors down in the early 1960s, the name changed to the Consiglio's we all know and love today.
Consiglio's is one of several long-standing restaurants in New Haven founded by Italian immigrants.
Fellow Wooster Square resident Frank Pepe's Pizzeria was founded way back in 1925.
This lovely new bar is a recent addition that really adds to the wonderful interior atmosphere...
...but can you say no to this adorable patio?
On a warm day, it'll feel like you've been magically transported to Italy!
This place serves up amazing home-cooked Southern Italian dishes that are absolutely delectable.
We're drooling over this homemade Pappardelle pasta covered in sun-dried tomatoes and a truffle cream sauce.
The family-run restaurant is still run today by the founders' grandchild. She strives to continue to provide the quality food that Consiglio's has become known for over the last 80+ years!
