Here in Alabama, there are such a variety of places to eat, including some of the finest restaurants in the U.S. Recently, Food & Wine published its list "The Best Classic Restaurants in Every State." Listed below are five Alabama restaurants that were included on that list, and you'll want to try them all.
1. Highland's Bar & Grill - Birmingham
Highlands Bar & Grill, which opened for business in 1982, specializes in French-inspired Southern cuisine. In May 2018, it took home the James Beard Foundation Award for "Outstanding Restaurant," which means it's one of the best restaurants in the world.
2. The Bright Star - Bessemer
The Bright Star opened for business in 1907, which makes it Alabama's oldest restaurant. It specializes in Greek-influenced steak and seafood, and one of its most popular dishes is the Broiled Seafood Platter, which was included on the list "100 Dishes to Eat in Alabama Before You Die."
3. Martin's Restaurant - Montgomery
Martin's Restaurant is one of Alabama's most iconic places to eat. Since opening for business in the 1930s, this local fav has been serving some of the most delicious fried chicken around. It serves other Southern favorites such as fried catfish, fresh veggies, and more.
4. Archibald's - Northport
Archibald's is one of Alabama's top BBQ joints. Even though it doesn't look like much from the outside, this tiny restaurant has been smoking some of the state's best ribs since 1961. In fact, they're so delicious that Good Morning America and USA Today believes they're some of the best in America.
5. Doc's Seafood Shack & Oyster Bar - Orange Beach
Alabama is home to several amazing seafood restaurants, one of which is Doc's Seafood Shack & Oyster Bar. This award-winning restaurant offers a variety of seafood favorites, including its famous fried shrimp. Doc's Seafood Shack & Oyster Bar is a definite must visit whenever you're craving fresh seafood.
