Everyone should have a few songs about their state in their repertoire, so here’s a few we found that will (mostly) pump up some Sunshine State pride.

1. Old Folks at Home (Suwannee River) by Stephen Foster

Florida’s controversial State Song. Interestingly Foster never visited Florida or the Suwannee River, he just liked the sound of it.

2. Florida (Where the Sawgrass Meets the Sky) by Jan Hilton

Florida’s State Anthem. Yes, we have a State Song and a State Anthem, this was a compromise made when we attempted to find a new State Song in 2008, but couldn’t agree on whether or not to replace it.

3. Floridays by Jimmy Buffett

I don’t think you’ll find more Jimmy Buffett fans anywhere in the world than you will here. His popular song Margaritaville was partly written in Key West, but he started it in Austin, Texas.

4. The Florida Song by Ricky Sylvia

This literal love letter to Florida was actually sung at the Governor’s own wedding!

5. Mainline Florida by Eric Clapton

This classic premiered as the final track on the 1974 album, “461 Ocean Boulevard“.

6. Florida by Modest Mouse

A catchy, though somewhat gloomy, song by indie stars Modest Mouse.

7. State of Florida by Less Than Jake

A less than positive view of Florida by a native punk band.

8. Key Largo by Bertie Higgins

Bertie Higgins was born in Tarpon Springs, and he often mentioned Florida in his albums, but Key Largo is probably the most famous example.

9. Florida Blues by Ricky Skaggs

It’s called Florida Blues, but to me it seems super peppy and fun!

10. Florida by Patty Griffin

A soulful folk ballad about two girls in Florida.

11. Florida Rain by Matt Bauer

Matt Bauer writes moody folk songs with lots of banjo and thoughtful lyrics.

12. Florida by Blue Rodeo

Lovelorn country song from 1989 about heartbreak in Florida.
