This Creepy Skeleton Museum In Florida Is Not For The Faint Of Heart
There are lots of things to see and do in Orlando, but when you’re ready to take a break from the usual attractions, this offbeat museum is a fascinating diversion.
We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life. While we continue to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, please take proper precautions or add them to your bucket list to see at a later date. Skeletons: Museum of Osteology is a family-owned museum located on International Drive, near the iconic Orlando Eye.
All of this takes countless hours of preparation, even with the help of dermestid beetles that do some of the work, removing dried flesh from the specimens before they can be bleached and put together like complex puzzles. There is a small display of the beetles at work inside the museum.
There are some fascinating examples of two-headed calves and even an exhibit of mythical creatures. Did you know the myth of cyclops came from the strange-looking structure of elephant skulls?
On top of the awesome exhibits, the gift shop is itself an interesting place to visit. There are souvenirs alongside real animal skulls and other one-of-a-kind items.
