Florida is not exactly known for its scenic overlooks. It’s not because we don’t have pretty scenery, but being the flattest state in the country means we don’t have a lot of high points for viewing. Don’t lose hope, though. Here is a place in our state with a truly breathtaking view that you have to see for yourself.

Welcome to Torreya State Park in Bristol. This park in the Panhandle has scenic overlooks where you can see for miles on a clear day.

This scenery may seem unlikely for Florida, but it exists due to the high bluffs that rise around the river. The view from the bluffs is outstanding. From 150 feet up, you can look down over the Apalachicola River, where more than 200 steamboats once traveled.

Ignore the rumor that Florida doesn't have fall foliage, because this park is one of the best places to see it. Florida's fall doesn't exactly line up with the rest of the country's, though, so feel free to call ahead and ask about the status of the changing leaves.

Check out how spectacular the view becomes when speckled with the red and yellow hues of autumn.

Guests can get the most out of their visit by taking one of the hikes that loop through the park. Though the payoff is huge, these hikes are challenging.

Folks who can't complete the hike can still see some amazing views from the historic Gregory House that overlooks the Apalachicola River. Guided tours of the home, filled with furnishings from the 1850s, are given daily.
