Florida is a big state with tons of visitors every year, but there are a few things native Floridians have in common that set them apart from all the tourists.
1. You know there are only two choices for footwear.
Flip-flops or bare feet. Shoes are for work and church.
2. You're not easily impressed with a Cuban sandwich.
Because we make some of the best you'll find anywhere.
3. At this point, snow would just seem weird.
The holiday season usually looks like this, and we're cool with that.
4. You've probably been to this place more times than you can count.
And you'll probably do the same for your kids, too.
5. You think alligators are kind of cute.
But you're smart enough to keep your distance (and keep your kids and pets even farther away), because you know they're a lot faster than they look.
6. You're accustomed to a more in-your-face kind of nature.
As in, flying in your face as you try to get in your front door.
7. You're used to a torrential downpour striking at any moment.
Followed by the sun returning an hour later.
8. You know the real four seasons of Florida.
Hurricane, Lovebug, Tourist, and Summer.
9. You're not even worried about being outside in the rain until there's lightning.
We don't play around when it comes to lightning.
10. You know the oldest city in the country isn't some stuffy town in New England.
Lovely St. Augustine has plenty of history to quench everyone's thirst for knowledge. Oh yeah, and it's fun too.
11. You think trees just look kind of naked without moss.
This looks much better.
12. You've been swimming longer than you can remember.
If you hadn't, you would've been super bored.
13. You've collected a lot of shells in your day.
Way more than you would know what to do with.
14. You didn't have Snow Days growing up.
You had Hurricane Days. You might have even hosted hurricane parties.
15. There's not a drop of love in your heart for seagulls.
Just trying to have a sandwich turns into a scene from The Birds.
