Anna Maria is a town of fewer than 2,000 people on the northern end of Anna Maria Island, a beautiful barrier island just 50 miles from Tampa. Here, more folks choose biking or walking to get around than cars, and many of the homes can be accessed right from the water.
For a fun and funky treat, try The Donut Experiment. This charming little shop serves donuts taken out of your wildest dreams, sprinkled with everything from Fruity Pebbles to maple bacon.
Ginny's and Jane E's Cafe and Coastal store is a local landmark that should not be overlooked. Stop into this quirky gem for artsy antique treasures (some of which hang from the ceiling) and the best breakfast on the island.
On an island paradise, you will probably want to find the beach. The go-to spot for Anna Maria is beautiful Bean Point. Soak up the sun, swim in the sparkling blue water, or walk along the beach collecting shells. From there, you can walk around the entire seven-mile island or take the town trolley from beach to beach.
