What started out as a typical Memorial Day golf outing turned into something a little more, well, memorable, when an unexpected player popped up on the scene at Buffalo Creek Golf Club in Palmetto, Florida yesterday afternoon. Charlie Helms and his friend Dave got an unforgettable video along with a round of holes:

Helms sums it up pretty well by saying, “That is the biggest fricking alligator I have ever seen in my life.” The beast was estimated to be between 15 and 16 feet long and apparently he’s made a habit out of frequenting the local greens.

“People have heard that he is out here and that is all they want to see so they will bring spectators to ride so somebody can get a picture,” Buffalo Creek Golf Club pro shop clerk Wendy Schofield told News 3. “He doesn’t bother anybody and they don’t bother him, he’s like a mascot for the course, which is owned by Manatee County.”

Unofficial mascot or not, it’s a pretty terrifying encounter for a couple of guys just looking to hit a few balls. What would you have done if you saw a gator this big out on the course?
