Down in the southern part of the state, there sits a tropical paradise known as the Florida Keys. This beautiful area can only be accessed by one road in and out. But way back when, the road in and out was not the same road we have now. When you’re driving down to the Keys you’ll take Florida’s Overseas Highway from Key Largo to Key West, but back in the day, the classic drive was a bit different. This old, abandoned bridge was originally built in order to carry the Florida East Coast Railroad, but it later was retrofitted to become a road for automobiles. Check out the history and beauty of this uninhabited bridge in Florida.

The Overseas Railroad was originally the conception of famed railroad tycoon Henry Flagler. Flagler wanted to extend the railway beyond Miami, Florida and into Key West. The railroad was actually completed in 1919, and even dubbed by many to be the “Eighth Wonder of the World.” However, when the hurricane destroyed much of the infrastructure in the 1930s, the land was sold to the state and eventually became the Florida Keys Overseas Heritage Trail, providing tons of trails and land for fishing, walking, and biking. While the bridge isn’t in use anymore, it still remains as hauntingly beautiful as ever and this drone captured all the beauty in one video.

Thanks to YouTuber Kyle Bridgman, we’re able to see all the beauty and history that this one bridge holds in Florida, despite no longer being in use.

And speaking of incredible drone footage that shows places in Florida like never before, check out the empty Florida beaches captured by these drones that you likely have never seen so still before.
