Smack dab in the middle of Volusia County, you’ll find over 27,000 acres of forest and wetlands known as Tiger Bay State Forest.
What was purchased back in 1977, the forest was intended to be a haven for wildlife, especially for species that have been declared threatened, endangered, or of concern.
The history of the state forest, however, was not always pristine natural beauty - back in 1998 the Summer Wildfire Firestorm demolished around 15,000 acres of the park, which led to huge restoration efforts.
