It has to be common knowledge at this point that Milwaukee is a little weird. However, if you're a newcomer, you might not expect to see such strange things scattered throughout our city. Whether it be a bronze statue of a T.V. character or an ungodly amount of Pabst Blue Ribbon, here are nine things you might be surprised to see while visiting Brew City.
1. Racing Sausages
That's right, we have a sausage race! During every Brewers game, these different Klements sausages race around the track, and you better believe each Milwaukeean has a favorite.
2. A bronze statue of The Fonz.
Milwaukeeans are generally pretty happy folks, but to prove it, we installed a bronze statue of The Fonz from the old TV show Happy Days on our River Walk. The Bronze Fonz is a beloved addition that will light up anyone's face (and provide endless photo-ops). Now that's not something you see every day. Ayy!
3. People squeezing their cheese curds together.
To make sure a fresh cheese curd is good, you have to squeeze them together and hear the squeak! It's less weird than it sounds...
4. An art museum that moves.
Our art museum is filled with amazing works of art that will move your soul, but the building moves too! This iconic building known as the "Calatrava" has wings that open and close twice a day.
5. A Pabst in every hand.
Everyone is aware that PBR started in Milwaukee, but you might not expect that we're still so obsessed. We are, and we're not ashamed.
6. Three big glass domes.
The Mitchell Park Domes don't necessarily look like they're from this planet, but they're actually a horticultural conservatory. It's one of the few places in Milwaukee that always feels like summer, and is always in bloom.
7. A motorized baseball stadium.
We all know the Brew Crew is the best baseball team, but the stadium in which they play might be the greatest too. Miller Park has a roof that opens and closes depending on the weather. Who else has that?!
8. Giant ladybugs crawling up buildings.
If you're driving down Water Street, you might see some strange creatures. No, you're not seeing things, we really do have a building with ladybugs crawling on it.
9. A haunted cigar bar.
Cigar bars can be hard to find in general, but this one holds Milwaukee's greatest legend. Don't get too spooked!
Dear outsiders, were you surprised to see any of these things in our city? What else was unexpected? Let us know in the comments!
