Whale watching is a popular pastime in Washington, which is pretty amazing — not every state can make that claim. But unless you've spent some time in Friday Harbor, you may not know there's an entire museum dedicated to these majestic creatures. And The Whale Museum is definitely worth exploring.
The Whale Museum is located at 62 First St N. in the beautiful Friday Harbor.
Friday Harbor is located on San Juan Island, and it's definitely the most popular tourist destination of all the San Juans.
The museum, which opened in 1979, was the first museum in the country devoted to a species living in the wild.
The goal is to educate people about amazing whales, other marine creatures, and the ecosystem in which they live.
The museum has two floors, the first of which is dedicated to the gift shop and the newest exhibits.
Upstairs, you can explore the Gallery of Whales.
The Whale Museum Exhibit Hall and Gift Shop are open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Admission is $9 for adults, $5 for children and students, and $6 for seniors. Children under 5 are free.
The next time you're visiting the San Juans, take some time to learn more about these majestic creatures.
The Whale Museum is a uniquely Washington experience.
Have you ever been to The Whale Museum? If you're a local history buff, this museum is also a must-see.
