There's no doubt about it - Virginia has a lot of history. Both ghost hunters and history buffs alike will enjoy exploring some of the state's most storied places, from the oldest restaurants to the most haunted battlefields in Virginia. Today's destination is one that belongs in the latter category. Sailor's Creek Battlefield State Park was the site of one of the Civil War's most notorious battles. It's a fascinating place to learn about the war, and it also happens to be incredibly haunted.
Welcome to Sailor's Creek Battlefield Historical State Park, a true hidden gem located in central Virginia.
The moment you arrive, you'll feel as though you've stepped back in time. The park is the former site of the last Civil War Battle in Virginia and the place where the Union army declared victory.
In fact, 72 hours after this battle, General Robert E. Lee would surrender the rest of his army at Appomattox Court House.
The park offers a fascinating museum about the battle as well as living history programs.
And while the history of the battlefield is fascinating, it's the paranormal activity that will really capture your imagination. Located within the park, the Overton-Hillsman house is notoriously haunted.
This house, which historians believed was built in the 1770s, served as a makeshift hospital for both armies. Many men died within this small structure.
Moreover, the fact that thousands died and were wounded on this battlefield is reason enough to believe there's a haunted energy present.
