Art is such a beautiful thing. It's one of the oldest types of self-expression and it comes in so many different forms, from photographs to paintings and everything in between. This fall, you can be part of an awe-inspiring mural festival in Downtown Houston that showcases the elaborate work of urban artists from all over the world. Some of the art tells stories about important world issues such as poverty and global warming, while other murals have no meaning deeper than simply to illustrate the sheer magnitude of the artists' talent. Here's a glimpse of what you'll see at the festival:
Featuring artists from all over the world, the festival transforms Houston from a concrete jungle to an explosion of color in the span of just a few days.
Artists have ~190 hours to create their murals using graffiti, paintbrush work, airbrush, roller brush, wheat paste, stencil, and more.
Nearly 90% of murals created in previous years will remain, and new murals will cover an additional 20,000 square feet of space.
Over 100 volunteers will be assisting the event, so expect plenty of festivities, guided tours, and community programs.
Both self-guided and guided tours will be available for festival goers to experience the art in a way that allows them to best enjoy it.
There'll be artist vendors, live demos, mural tours and tasting of the official festival beer, Estrella Jalisco.
The week-long festival takes place from Saturday, October 15 to Saturday, October 22 from 11am-7pm each day.
So even if you aren't an art aficionado, you'll be able to appreciate the beautiful work of the talented artists whose work will be plastered on the walls of Downtown Houston.
