Texas is rich with old-fashioned general stores, some being more well-known than others. Among the most underrated is the Fischer Store, nestled in a small town of fewer than 1,000 residents. Come shop for all sorts of treasures and get to know the locals at this charming, historic mercantile.
The small town of Fischer has a population of less than 700, but somehow, this quaint little building is always crowded.
Established in 1853, the Fischer Store has always been much more than just a mercantile - it's a place where locals and travelers alike can gather and enjoy each other's company.
Hermann Fischer, the very first settler in northern Comal County, opened the store.
It hasn't left the family after all these years, and visitors can expect to meet several generations of Fischers.
As far as the selection goes, it features a little bit of everything.
From Texas-themed clothing and accessories to gifts for every major holiday, rest assured you'll find what you need (and plenty you don't).
Saturday morning is by far the best time to visit, as it's when the weekly farmers market takes place.
Stock up on fresh produce, local honey, eggs, freshly roasted coffee, and other goodies every Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Whether you're a regular or it's your first time, the Fischer Store is always worth a visit.
Bring the whole family and prepare to leave with armfuls of goodies!
If you're a live music fan, stop by Fischer Dance Hall before you leave town.
It's just down the road from the general store and regularly hosts amazing local bands.
Hours are 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturdays.
Visit the store’s website or Facebook page to learn more.
