This Old Fashioned Lights Display In Oregon Will Fill You With Holiday Wonder
The Pastega Christmas Light Display in Corvallis, Oregon, is a beloved holiday tradition featuring over 1.5 million lights and hand-painted characters.
There are plenty of amazing Christmas light displays all over Oregon during the holiday season, and many have millions of LED lights, synchronized to music. Technology has definitely made Christmas more glitzy, but there's something to be said for this old-fashioned lights display in Corvallis:
The Pastega Christmas Light Display began back in 1981, when Mario and Alma Patega created hand-painted Christmas characters, dressed them in lights, and put on a small show for the neighborhood.
It started out as a very humble, small display, and slowly grew and grew.
Over the years, neighbors began creating and donating their own displays, and the Christmas light display became a holiday tradition for many families in Corvallis.
Mario Pastega passed away in 2012, but the community rallied to preserve the display, and it was moved to the Benton County Fairgrounds. Volunteers set the display up every year, and keep the characters looking fresh with new paint when needed. You'll find this little bit of nostalgia at 110 SW 53rd St., Corvallis, OR 97333.
This drive-through light display just gets better every year.
The largest part of the attraction is under the roof, and you'll want to make sure to turn off your car's headlights so you can see it properly.
You're sure to see some familiar characters from your childhood...
...and you'll also see new characters from some of Disney's recent movies.
Ask your kids which display they like the best, and they might choose the Star Wars characters that are located right outside the barn.
Other outside displays include Santa's workshop, a lighted carousel, and a collection of super heroes.
This charming display is certain to put you in the holiday spirit, and your kids will be mesmerized by all the glittering lights and bright, cheerful characters.
The cost to drive through this old-fashioned light display? Absolutely free!
There's no charge to drive through, but the Pastega Christmas Display encourages you to participate in the food drive supporting local community members. Bring your canned food and drop it off as you start the drive.
