Few people would associate Ohio with notions of the Old West and the American frontier.
And yet, there's an incredible festival happening in the village of Williamsburg that promises cowboys, saloons, live music, and entertainment for all ages. With just a bit of imagination, you can picture yourself on the set of an old John Wayne movie. Old West Festival will take place from September 8th through October 14th on Saturdays and Sundays and you surely won't want to miss it. Take a look at what's in store for this incredibly unique weekend festival:
Not far from Cincinnati awaits an authentic western town that comes alive with the spirit of the frontier during an unmissable event known as Old West Festival.
Arriving to this set-up, you'll feel as though you've stepped back in time to an era when outlaws roamed wild and panning for gold wasn't just a novelty experience.
The pioneer village offers a realistic insight into what life was like out on the western frontier in the nineteenth century. Visitors will delight in the opportunity to harness their lasso skills...
...marvel at the caravan of covered wagons, ponies, and horses...
...observe friendly and comedic fight reenactments by Carnivale and the Frontier Justice Rangers...
...and interact with storytellers and can-can dancers during festive and entertaining saloon shows.
Of course, it wouldn't be the Old West without heartland music and sing-alongs to classic western favorites, such as 'Coming Round The Mountain.'
Other entertainment includes taking Old Tyme photos, panning for gold, shopping for handmade crafts, and listening to stories of famous outlaws.
All entertainment at the festival is totally kid-friendly and interactive to ensure your little ones have a memorable experience.
So much western adventure is bound to work up an appetite, and fortunately there will be plenty of refreshment options. Stop by the saloon for a cold beer or enjoy a refreshing sarsaparilla.
For food, visitors can enjoy real Rattlesnake Chili (photographed below), turkey legs, Buffalo burgers, portobello sandwiches, fried potatoes, barbecue chicken, bean soup, and much more.
Visiting the festival is truly an educational and informative experience. The characters are so lively and the costumes so authentic that you may just forget what year it is.
So if you're enticed by this vision of the Old West, you owe it to yourself to join in on the family-friendly fun.
