In 1587, 117 men, women, and children arrived onshore of Roanoke Island. The colony of Roanoke Island was the first known American settlement, but their story became extremely disturbing just three years later. Shortly after the birth of his granddaughter, Virginia Dare, the first English child born on American soil, John White sailed back to England for more supplies. On his fateful return, the third birthday of his granddaughter, he arrived to what was once Roanoke Colony to discover everyone had mysteriously vanished. It seemed as if they left in a hurry overnight, with no sign of life besides crumbled, absent, and ghostly remains.
The only words the colonist left were the words CROATOAN mysteriously carved onto a tree. Due to an oncoming hurricane, the search for what is now known as the 'Lost Colony' was halted, and many to this day are still perplexed and still wonder what exactly happened. Some speculate the colonists were killed by Native Americans, while others think they went to live with a tribe of Native Americans. Some think they fled to the island of Croatoan off the coast. Others blame supernatural occurrences. But still, no one knows.
It seems the popular TV show, American Horror Story, might monopolize on America's first missing persons case and include this mystery in their highly anticipated season 6.

Leaked photos surfaced showcasing a Colonial-themed set with the words 'CROATOAN' carved on to a tree. If you're thinking like I'm thinking, that means AHS Season 6 might just have a North Carolina theme! The producers have kept the Season 6 theme tightly under wraps, with many guessing as to what it's going to be. The only thing known now is that it will take place over multiple time periods, with one being modern day.

Die hard fans are speculating this season will be linked to Season 1, Murder House, when Tate and Violet learn of the first successful exorcism by the Roanoke Citizens that later haunted a nearby Native American Tribe named....(you guessed it) the Croatoans.
AHS has a genius way of linking all seasons, and I think it's safe to say at this point, this popular TV show will indeed have a North Carolina connection.
The show has released a few promo clips that still leave us guessing, with one displaying an eerie farm house in the middle of nowhere, making many wonder about a Texas Chainsaw-like theme. Either way, if Croatoan is carved on that tree, I will be tuning in September 14th!
Any diehard AHS fans here? What do you think the theme will be, and are you excited about this news?
