There seems to be no shortage of beautiful churches here in Mississippi. Some are so stunning, they leave you in awe — and that’s exactly the case with St. Joseph Catholic Church. Located in Port Gibson, the church is outfitted with cobalt blue windows that fill its interior with a thick, blue haze. Take a look:
Dubbed "a carefully preserved, historically significant place," Port Gibson is full of beautiful buildings from the past. And among those buildings is St. Joseph Catholic Church.
You'll find it at 411 Coffee St. in Port Gibson.
Built in 1849, it's one of the oldest surviving Catholic churches in Mississippi.
But age isn't the church’s only distinguishing feature. There's also the bluish haze that illuminates it.
The vivid glow can be attributed to the church’s windows.
Unlike most stained glass windows, which include a variety of colors, the windows at St. Joseph are made using only one color — blue.
A truly stunning site, visitors are often left speechless.
Another common consensus is that pictures don’t do the church justice — so seeing it in person is a must.
In addition to the blue windows, the church's interior features elaborate carved woodwork that's sure to impress.
According to records, the intricate carvings were done by the original architect’s son, Daniel Foley, Jr., who was just 18 at the time.
Still in operation, St. Joseph Catholic Church is open for mass Tuesday through Sunday.
