When describing a library, enchanting is probably the last word that comes to mind, but that’s just because you haven’t seen the J.Z. George Library in North Carrollton. The historic library can be found on the grounds of the Cotesworth plantation, and like something straight from the pages of a fairy tale, it’s practically overflowing with charm. Take a look:

Originally an inn, Cotesworth was transformed into a residence in 1847 when it was purchased by local lawyer and future U.S. senator, J.Z. George.

After purchasing the modest home, the senator began renovations, turning it into a Greek Revival mansion.

If the home looks familiar, it's because it was featured in the movie "The Help."

Cotesworth was used as the home of Celia Foote.

In 1877, the senator added a "free-standing hexagonal library" to the property.

Now known as J.Z. Library, it was used to house his vast collection of law books.

An extremely influential politician, Senator George wrote a major portion of the 1890 Mississippi Constitution.

The 6-sided structure even includes a hexagonal cupola, which allows for the perfect amount of natural light to seep in.

Aside from being one of the of the most unusual buildings in the state...

...it’s the only hexagonal structure still standing in Mississippi.
