You’ve Got To Visit This Charming Mississippi Cafe That’s Housed Inside A Historic Library

The Magnolia State is home to a ton of unique restaurants, and Le Café Beignet is definitely one of them. Located in downtown Biloxi, the charming café is housed inside a former library that dates back to the 1920s. The architectural gem provides the perfect setting for an enjoyable meal, which you’re sure to have thanks to the café’s tasty southern fare.

Le Café Beignet has been a Biloxi fixture for quite some time; however, the café just recently moved to its new location – a 2-story stucco building on Lameuse Street, which once housed the Biloxi Public Library.

The Spanish Colonial revival building, which was designed by Carl Emil Matthes, dates back to 1924.

Much more than a Biloxi icon, it’s listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has been designated a Mississippi landmark.

Le Café Beignet is located on the 2nd floor of the building. Don’t want to tackle the stairs? No problem; there’s an elevator on the ground floor.

Inside, a great deal of care has been taken to maintain the historic feel. Classic molding and intricate details along with original wood floors provide clues to the building’s age – they also provide the perfect setting for a memorable meal.

In addition to plenty of tables inside, there’s also an outdoor dining area. Grab a seat and look over the menu, which features breakfast, brunch, lunch, and…

…beignets, of course. The café’s specialty, the beignets are made using a generations-old recipe.

And while the beignets alone are worth a trip to the café, the rest of the menu is just as mouthwatering.

With a "southern gourmet brunch," it’s the perfect early morning spot. Start the day off by filling up on shrimp and grits, seafood omelets, and other locally-inspired dishes.

The afternoon isn’t a bad time to visit, either. New Orleans-inspired sandwiches are the star of the lunchtime menu but there are also wraps and salads.

No matter what time of the day you visit, it’s always coffee time. Get ready for some tough decisions – you’ll have to choose between coffee, lattes, and hot teas.
