Most People Don’t Know About This Mississippi Country Store…Or That It’s Haunted

Woodville, Mississippi, is home to the haunted Pond Store and the scenic Clark Creek Natural Area.

Notoriously haunted locales are scattered throughout the state. Graveyards and historic homes make up a majority of the state’s spooky sites, but they don’t account for all of them. Some supernatural hot spots are hidden where you least expect them, such as an old country store in small-town Mississippi. Take a look:

A tiny town of about 1,000, Woodville probably isn’t on your radar…but it should be.

And that’s because it’s home to one of the state’s best outdoor gems, Clark Creek Natural Area. Spanning 700 acres, the natural area boasts lots of perks but is most known for its waterfalls.

Anyone who’s ever traveled to Clark Creek Natural Area has likely stopped at the Pond Store, which is located just 300 yards away

The Pond Store was built in 1881, and just like general stores from the past, it’s stocked with a variety of items.

But an assortment of merchandise isn’t all the store houses.

It’s also home to a ghost, who’s made his presence known to visitors on several occasions.

The historic store is believed to be haunted by the ghost of the former owner, Mr. Lemkewitz, who before his passing, told the current owner’s parents that if it were permitted after he died, “he might drop back in” from time to time.

And it looks like he’s kept good on his promise – and then some. In addition to being spotted inside the store, the ghost of Mr. Lemkewitz has been seen in the Pond Store Cabins, which are located on the same property.

The quaint cabins are available for rent.

However, be warned, you may receive a ghostly wake-up call like one past guest, who woke up to the ghost of an elderly man standing at the foot of her bed.

For more information, call the Pond Store at (601) 888-4426. You can also visit the Pond Store Facebook page. To learn more about the store’s cabins, click here.
