Small town Mississippi is full of hidden gems, and the A.F. Carraway Store is one of them. The centuries-old general store boasts tons of historical charm and nostalgia - but that's not all. There's also a great variety of merchandise, which is the perfect mix of old and new. Take a look:
The epitome of a small town, you won’t find much in Bassfield, which is located in Jefferson Davis County. However, you will find the A.F. Carraway Store, a general store that’s as charming as it is historic.
Opened in 1919, the store recently celebrated its 100th anniversary.
Though many things have changed at the store over the years, many have remained the same, like the cash register, which is still the original. Also, the store still has many of its original furnishings.
And just like in the early days, the store still sells groceries and hardware.
Hoop cheese, bacon, and Roundhouse overalls are among the store’s biggest sellers. Interestingly enough, the A.F. Carraway Store is the only local vendor of Roundhouse.
The store also sells specialty items, such as t-shirts, which come in a variety of colors and can even be personalized.
Home décor, toys, and unique gifts are also part of the merchandise mix.
Brimming with an array of goods, there really is something for everyone at the A.F. Carraway Store.
So, are you ready to take a step back in time with a visit to the A.F. Carraway Store?
A.F. Carraway Store is open Monday – Saturday, 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. For more information, call (601) 943-5551. You can also visit the store’s Facebook page.
This isn’t the state’s only historic general store. Read about another, which also serves as a great restaurant, here.
