Early July has arrived in New Orleans...and that can only mean one thing! It's time for one of the most creative and fantastic festivals that has ever graced the beautiful streets of our city. That's right, it's time for the annual Running of the Bulls, and it will all be kicking off starting tonight.
The Running of the Bulls 2017 is truly something special. They have a whole weekend of events lined up, listed here.
It's an expanded festival that has been going on in the city for the past 11 years--growing every year.
Of course the highlight is always this morning, where the Running of the Bulls will start at The Sugar Mill.
All participants are required to wear white with red bandannas as they continue to run through the French Quarter.
And who are the bulls, you may be wondering?
Well they are the Big Easy Rollergirls, New Orleans' all female flat-track roller derby team.
Each year, the gather together--over 400 of them with their plastic bats, ready to wreak havoc on the over 18,000 New Orleanians who hit the streets for this festival.
It's true bedlam, and takes after the event that is held in Spain every year. But of course it has its own New Orleans flair.
This year, there was a special giveaway of the Running of the Bulls swag, giving you all of the things you need to be fully prepared for an awesome festival.
Who ever was lucky enough to win this bounty is definitely going to be one of the best dressed at the whole festival. You just can't go wrong with a fan like that!
After all the business of the morning--running and dodging roller girls that is--there is a lot of celebration.
A post running of the bulls party features live music, food, drinks and so much more.
So what are you waiting for? If you are reading this, then it's time to get up off of your seat and join in the fun.
There's truly no other festival quite like it anywhere in America--we know you will have a blast participating!
