Many cities throughout the country highlight their architectural bridges by lighting them up at night, including some of the beautiful structures in Kentucky. This holiday season, Newport has decided to join this trend and illuminate the Purple People Bridge for Winter Nights, River Lights in Kentucky. Now through the middle of January, you can stroll across the Ohio River and witness a stunning light show and views of both Northern Kentucky and downtown Cincinnati.
Newport on the Levee is always a festive place to visit during the holidays and this year is no exception.
With relatively new owners, this Northern Kentucky destination has been reimagined as a gathering spot for a variety of shops, restaurants, and events. In addition to some of the previous attractions that are back this year, they've added a new feature that's perfect for an outdoor stroll.
The Purple People Bridge is a pedestrian bridge that connects Newport to downtown Cincinnati.
This year, Winter Nights, River Lights in Kentucky takes place every evening through January 15th.
The bridge is illuminated with twinkling lights and there is also music playing to set the mood.
There is plenty of space on the bridge and throughout the levee to spread out and enjoy the sights and sounds of the season.
Also be sure you stop at this point on the bridge and snap a photo.
You can stand in two states at once thanks to this line that shows the state line in the middle of the river.
After walking along the bridge, head back to Newport for more fun and festivities.
Winter Wonder on the Levee offers a variety of events for all ages. And many of these are outdoors, with tents and heat lamps set up for extra comfort.
You can also pick up some last minute gifts by shopping local at the shops and boutiques.
And don't forget to stop by the Wishing Tree and see if you are able to make someone's Christmas wish come true this year.
You'll find food, drinks, and outdoor seating available for relaxing and enjoying a meal or a sweet treat.
The ambiance is festive and comfortable and this area, including the illuminated bridge, are bound to become a new holiday tradition in Northern Kentucky.
