While we love Florida today, sometimes we yearn for a glimpse into the past. Sure, big stores on every corner are convenient but don't you miss the quaint charm of the little shops that once lined our streets? In some small towns, there might even be just one store that did its best to provide a little bit of everything. There aren't many things that look the same as they did 90 years ago, especially in Florida, but that's what makes this general store so special.
Welcome to Bradley's Country Store, located about 12 miles north of Tallahassee, in a small community called Felkel. Some big chains have tried to copy the small-town general store vibe, but this is the real deal.
The Bradley family began selling sausage to locals from their home kitchen back in 1910, even before this general store was built in 1927.
The store sold syrup made on-site from sugar cane, grits from an on-site grist mill, and of course, homemade sausage, along with other goods and necessities for day-to-day life.
Today, Bradley's Country Store provides a window into an important part of life almost a century ago. You will be flooded with a sense of nostalgia as soon as you step up on the old porch.
Pick out some preserves, honey, syrup, or some homemade soaps. The shelves are always full of unique gifts you won't find anywhere else.
Make sure to grab one of their famous sausage dogs and have a picnic lunch in the shade of ancient trees.
Visit in the fall for an extra special experience, when the historic complex hosts its 47th Annual Old Fashioned Fun Day, with tasty food, live entertainment, and one-of-a-kind gifts.
Have you ever visited Bradley's Country Store? What's your favorite place to get a glimpse of old-fashioned Florida?
