The Memorial Presbyterian Church in Florida is a beautiful church that deserves a visit.

Built in 1889 by businessman and St. Augustine patron Henry Morrison Flagler, the stunning church was dedicated to the memory of his daughter, who had died during childbirth at sea.

It is a Protestant church that is characterized by its bright coloring and soaring architecture.

The structure was inspired by St. Mark’s Basilica in Venice and made of materials such as poured concrete mixed with crushed coquina stone.

This is the same building method used in the famous Casa Monica and Ponce de Leon hotels.

The fantastical columns and other architectural details are made of terra cotta.

When Flagler died in 1913, his body was placed in a marble mausoleum within the church next to his late daughter, infant granddaughter and his first wife Mary Harkens Flager.
