Summer is a time for backyard barbeques, beach days, and other fun activities to enjoy the outdoors. In Connecticut, it's also festival season with events celebrating everything from art to tacos. However, the most colorful summer celebration in the state is the Plainville Fire Company Hot Air Balloon Festival. This three-day event is slated to take place in August and features a fabulous nighttime show of fireworks and a hot air balloon glow.
In its 35th year, the Plainville Fire Company Hot Air Balloon Festival will fill the sky with color August 23-25, 2019.
The annual celebration held at Norton Park is fun for the whole family and it's FREE! Enjoy live music, craft vendors, a classic car show, and, of course, dozens of hot air balloons.
The festivities will kick off Friday night with a hot air balloon glow. The tethered balloons will be inflated and show off their colors against the night sky.
The balloon glow draws in tons of visitors who come to appreciate the nighttime magic of the festival. You'll want to take in this spectacular sight at least once in your lifetime.
Friday night also brings the much-anticipated fireworks display, Beginning at 9:15 p.m., the fireworks will light up the sky in bright flashes that scream summer celebration.
The festival will continue through the weekend with balloon launches at 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturday and again at 6 a.m. on Sunday.
Stroll through the park and check out the crews getting ready to send their balloons into flight. Between launches, you can enjoy the other festival activities and food.
