Northeast Colorado Is Considered To Be One Of The Best Family-Friendly Trips In The State

Northeast Colorado offers family-friendly attractions, including charming small towns, historic sites, and outdoor activities.

Are you either living in or traveling through Colorado with kids and looking for something new and unique to see and do? Needless to say, Colorado is full of one-of-a-kind places to take the family, but one that is almost criminally overlooked is the northeast section of the state, which we consider to be one of the best family-friendly trips in the Centennial State:

If you love blue skies as far as the eye can see, country roads and lush farmland, and little-to-no-interstate traffic, you are guaranteed to love the friendly northeast!

Chock-full of charming small towns, there are plenty of places to stop and explore during your visit to northeast Colorado, including Sterling, Holyoke, and the pictured Fort Morgan.

Home to nearly 12,000 residents, there is lots to see around downtown Fort Morgan, which has everything from delicious restaurants to locally-owned shops to a small movie theater.

Do you enjoy museums and historic sites? There are plenty of those to go around in northeast Colorado, too, with nearly every town boasting an exhibition or 2.

Colorado is known near and far for being an outdoor paradise, so you better believe there is also plenty of hiking, fishing, boating, and various wildlife sightings in the northeast.

During your road trip, keep your eyes peeled for the Pawnee Buttes, which are two 300-foot-tall buttes located within the Pawnee National Grassland in Weld County.

Make a splash during your trip by visiting Jackson Lake State Park, where you can not only swim and go boating but camp, hike, and bike.

As with nearly every Colorado town, plan to be surprised during your northeast journey, as there are plenty of hidden gems along the way!

When traveling with kids, you absolutely cannot miss Burlington, which is home to both the historic (and working!) Kit Carson Carousel and interactive Old Town.

As an Eastern Plains native, I can also attest to the fact that you will see some of the most beautiful sunsets in the country.
