Ice Castles in Colorado are back! Ice Castles are a fun, exciting, and beautiful attraction that pops up in several states nationwide during the winter months each year. You may have visited them in the past in Dillon - but after leaving that location a few years ago, they've been absent from our great state. Now they've returned, and you can visit them once again this winter - now in Cripple Creek. Read on to learn more about this enchanting winter adventure and start planning your visit to Ice Castles in Cripple Creek, Colorado.
Ice Castles is one of the coolest winter attractions - literally! It's cold to be surrounded by ice, but time spent at this attraction is something that you'll never forget.
These "castles" are created by spraying lots and lots of water over scaffolding in freezing cold temperatures.
The result is nothing short of spectacular. The ice castles are beautiful during the day or at night, but at night they're also lit by internal light fixtures that make the structures glow.
The company that creates these ice castles has been doing its thing since 2011. It began as a front-yard project in Utah by a man named Brent Christiansen who wanted to delight his own six children with something special.
Since then, this company has grown and expanded, and now people can visit Ice Castles in six states.
Each version of these ice castles weighs over twenty million pounds.
Ice Castles had a location in Colorado for several years, but when Dillon decided to renovate and renew its Town Park, the company lost its Colorado location.
It's back again this year, though - now in Cripple Creek. Dates and hours are weather-dependent - but this winter is supposed to be a cold one, so there should be plenty of time to visit and enjoy this attraction during our state's winter months.
These ice castles are very photogenic and you'll have lots of opportunities to take amazing photos of the castles themselves and of your party enjoying them.
You can also enjoy ice slides, like those shown here, caverns and archways, crawl tunnels, winter characters and more.
You'll love the ice fountain, too. And, if you want to reserve a private space within the castle complex - say for a proposal or something similar?!? - that can be arranged as well.
It's going to be cold, though. Be sure to wear warm clothes and shoes with good treads when you visit.
