There is no denying that Cleveland is a melting pot of culture. The city is overflowing with splendid celebrations of many traditions, but there really is nothing quite as celebratory as a parade. Each year, one parade takes place in The Land that is so big, it actually scares away winter and brings spring into the region. You won't believe that you never attended this one Slovenian celebration during Mardi Gras:
If you spot one of these guys in Cleveland in early or mid-February, don't be alarmed.
This character is just a Kurent, and he's the guest of honor at the most popular carnival event in Slovenia.
The Kurent is said to chase away winter to make way for spring.
Since 2013, this beloved tradition has been celebrated annually in Cleveland.
Festivities typically take place in early- to mid-February, so remember to bundle up!

During the celebration, the Slovenian Museum and Archives is also often open to visitors.
Located at 6407 St. Clair Avenue, you'll want to stick around to hear special presentations and event-specific entertainment.
The Kurents will make their first public appearance with a traditional "jump," so clear your calendar to witness their arrival!
You can celebrate the Kurent Jump as these creatures make their first official public appearance.
Take note of their ginormous bells, which produce a sound that helps chase winter from the region.
The highlight of the entire celebration is the epic carnival parade.
The most spectacular event of the whole celebration begins at noon, when the parade moves down St. Clair. Attendees are encouraged to dress up in costumes of any kind to celebrate Mardi Gras.
The Cleveland Kurentovanje Parade and Festival will continue throughout the day over the course of the weekend, concluding with some incredible performances.
As you unwind after each day's excitement, the performances at the Slovenian National Home will leave you in awe.
Prepare yourself for ethnic food, ice carving demonstrations, and souvenirs galore.
This event is unlike anything you've ever seen in Cleveland, and after just one visit it may become a favorite tradition.
