Tucked inside a popular and well-known destination in Southern California, you'll find one of the most beautiful lakes hiding in plain sight. It's even possible you've passed right by it if you didn't know where to look. So where exactly is this little-known lake? Take a look to see where you can find this precious gem that's been right in front of you this entire time.
Baldwin Lake
You might be familiar with the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden in Arcadia, but if your afternoon of wandering didn't take you to the historic Queen Anne Cottage and Coach Barn located on the arboretum grounds, you may have missed Baldwin Lake.
The Queen Anne Cottage Coach and Barn
Hiding behind this famous cottage is where you'll find Baldwin Lake. Famous? Yep! This California Historical Landmark was made famous in the television show Fantasy Island. Take a look at the bell tower. Look familiar? That's where the character Tattoo rings the bell in the opening credits. Even though its name is officially Baldwin Lake, around here we call it the Fantasy Island Lagoon.
You can see the Queen Anne Cottage peeking through the trees in this photo. That sure would be a nice backyard to have in the summer. BBQ, anyone?
How about taking a dip in the lake?
On a hot day you may be tempted to jump in the lake and go swimming, but Baldwin Lake isn't that kind of lake. This is a lake for gazing, daydreaming, and picture taking. No swimming allowed at this lake.
Local Wildlife
Due to the drought the lake has receded and water levels are not what they used to be. But it's still a picturesque spot that even the local wildlife can't resist.
Picture-perfect scenery!
It sure is a serene place to relax for a moment and take in the scenery. Go ahead and snap a picture -- this looks like the perfect spot.
Have you ever been to Baldwin Lake? Did you even know it existed? It's another lovely hidden gem in SoCal, so make sure to check it out. If you're looking for lakes that are perfect for camping or a day of swimming, check out these 9 stunning lakes across Southern California.
