Maxine's Tap Room is looking snazzy this month!
For the entire month of March the beloved bar has been outfitted in a giant crochet project. There's a couple of reasons for the colorful squares.
Maxine's 70th anniversary is the main reason for the yarn bomb.
The historic bar has certainly been tested over the decades with death, fire, and problematic insurance. For an interesting history lesson on Maxine's you can read our article.
March is also National Crochet Month!
The project was in the works since November and included a full team of volunteers.
The yarn bomb was woven by 15 members of Crochetitvillle, a local crochet club. The group originally formed in 2019 and aims "to create a yarniverse of color, compassion, and community spirit with projects that engage, inspire, and enlighten." Gina Gallina Dulling, leader of Crochetitville, has had her work featured in the Block Street Block Party as well as in the Green Candy public art project in 2017.
The building-sized yarn bomb took time and dedication.
The building's "sweater" is composed of over 1,800 crocheted squares. This means each person in Crochetitvillle created about 120 squares each!
Whether you just drive by or stop in for a while, a visit to Maxine's Tap Room is in order!
Despite the wild weather the yarn bomb is still bold and beautiful. The display will be up until the end of March. For more general information on Maxine's Tap Room, visit their website right here.
