A lot of these attractions are great for filling in the schedule on a family road trip or even if you're making a trip out of town with a bunch of friends for the weekend. These wacky and cool stops around Alaska will give you one of a kind memories and awesome photo ops!
1) Santa Claus House and Statue
In Alaska there is a wonderful Christmas town named the North Pole. Yes, people live here and YES people send letters to Santa here all the time. The North Pole is home to the largest Santa statue in the world AND it has real live reindeer for your viewing pleasure!
2) Igloo City
Constructed in the 1970's, this building mimics the look of an igloo but was never actually put to use. On your way through Cantwell, Alaska check the Igloo out; apparently there have been reports of ghost sightings in this run down building!
3) Togo The Stuffed Wonder Dog
If you're in Wasilla and have some time to kill, you ought to check out the stuffed sled dog, Togo, who is famous for saving the town of Nome from the diphtheria epidemic!
4) Mukluk Land
Famed to be the "most Alaskan place in Alaska," Mukluk Land in Tok is a junkyard made over into a theme park!
5) H.A.A.R.P.
If you see suspicious looking skies while driving through Gakona, Alaska, it's probably because you're witnessing H.A.A.R.P. - an auroral research program that super heats the ionosphere... it looks about as cool as it sounds-trust me!
6) Burial Spirit Houses
These spirit houses are part of an Eclutna burial ground in Anchorage. The colorful box-like houses are placed over the dead and left to collapse and rot.
7) Dr. Seuss House
In Wasilla there is a well known home that is referred to as the Dr. Seuss house.
8) Aurora Ice Museum
This place is super cool, both literally and figuratively. If you're in Fairbanks you absolutely MUST VISIT the Aurora Ice Museum, after all it is the worlds largest year round ice environment. Not to mention, it has an ice bar.
