Thousands Of Singing Spring Peepers Are A Welcome Sound Of Normalcy Here In Delaware
Spring is starting to appear all throughout the First State. Warm, sunny days, budding trees, bright and colorful tulips, and more are among the first signs of spring in Delaware, and we’re happy to have the season back!
We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life. While we continue to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, please take proper precautions or add them to your bucket list to see at a later date. Right now, life in the First State is a little strange. Many of our usual springtime rituals are on hold as we stay home, or only head out by ourselves to get a little fresh air.
They first begin to sing early in the season, and continue their chorus throughout May, as they're joined by other chrous frogs. Your backyard might be so loud that it keeps you up at night!
Spring Peepers are one of the smallest frogs you'll find in Delaware, but they make quite a mighty sound! Their singing is the one of the first signs of spring in Delaware
It may seem like they're putting on a performance for you, but their loud chirps are part of nature at play. Only the male frogs sing, as part of their mating ritual.
While you can hear them throughout the day if you find the right wetland area, their chorus is easiest to hear at dusk. Keep an ear out for one of the first signs of spring in Delaware when you hear them call!
