Despite being a tiny state with a large population, it’s still possible to find quiet, untouched spots in Delaware where you can enjoy some peace and quiet. When you need to enjoy some alone time, head to any of these peaceful places in Delaware and relax for a while.
During these uncertain times, please keep safety in mind and consider adding destinations to your bucket list to visit at a later date.
1. Delaware Seashore State Park
Delaware Seashore State Park stretches from the Indian River Inlet and includes over 6 miles of sandy beach. During the summer months, it's sparsely populated, and in the off season, you're likely to have a big stretch of sand to yourself.
2. Winterthur Museum and Library
Winterthur is one of the most elegant DuPont estates around, and it's quiet and serene all year long. Even in the popular Enchanted Woods, you'll be able to find a solitary place to sit and relax.
3. Hagley Museum
The Hagley Museum is the site of the first DuPont home in America, and the home and mills have been preserved over the decades. Today, you can take a self-guided tour of the estate and discover hidden gems like old railcars, steam whistles, and water wheels.
4. Mt. Cuba Center
The Mt. Cuba Center features acres of gorgeous scenery. The entire botanical garden is home to thousands of native Delaware plants and wildflowers, and it's bursting with the colors of each season.
5. Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge
Prime Hook NWR is a gorgeous waterfront refuge in Delaware. Find foxes, ospreys and more wildlife than you can imagine on a quiet hike or paddle here.
6. Trap Pond State Park
Laurel's State Park is one of my favorites! Home to a huge Baldcypress swamp, this unique ecosystem is unlike any other in the state. There are miles of trails to explore on foot, on a bike, or in a kayak.
7. Bellevue State Park
Despite being located in busy Wilmington, Bellevue State Park has found a way to create a relaxing oasis. Take a stroll around the pond for a gorgeous view.
8. The Green in Dover
Dover's Green is right at the heart of our capital city, and it's a great place to take a break from urban life and relax with a picnic, with historic buildings as your backdrop.
9. Brandywine Park
Brandywine Park is another one of Wilmington's treasures. Enjoy a walk along the river, views of the skyline, and quiet, winding trails.
10. Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge
Bombay Hook is Delaware's largest Wildlife Refuge, and it's one of the most important sanctuaries for migratory birds in the world! Bring binoculars and try to spot a few of the hundreds of species of birds.
11. Fenwick Island State Park
Fenwick Island State Park is all the way down near the Maryland Border, and it features miles of clean, soft sand where you can lay your towel. If you head here after Labor Day, you'll be able to find a big stretch of sand all to yourself.
12. Redden State Forest
Redden State Forest is one of the most remote spots in the First State, so it's great for a solo hike or a picnic to clear your head. In the fall, the trees here are stunning, painted with the bright colors of autumn.
