The Wildflower Festival In Delaware Is The Most Charming Way To Celebrate Spring

Spring is in the air here in Delaware, and after a long winter, we can’t wait to celebrate the season and all of the incredible things that come along with it. Our favorite thing about spring is the blooming flowers, and if you love wildflowers as much as we do, there’s one annual celebration you absolutely must add to your calendar. Home to the most spectacular displays of wildflowers in the Mid-Atlantic in the gently rolling hills of the Delaware Piedmont, Mt. Cuba Center is worthy of a visit from any corner of the state, especially during their Annual Wildflower Celebration.

This non-profit botanical garden comes alive in the Springtime, and there’s no better way to celebrate the season here in Delaware than by attending their annual Wildflower Celebration, held on April 28, 2019, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Stroll through stunning native plant gardens full of blooming flowers and enjoy live music, gardening demonstrations, and more at this charming festival.

Kids will love having their faces painted, participating in a scavenger hunt, playing lawn games like ladder ball and cornhole, meeting the adorable tadpoles growing at Mt. Cuba Center, and venturing into the woods to get dirty in the discovery grove.

You will also discover a variety of food selections available, a raffle, and plenty of opportunities to learn about Delaware’s native plants as well as Mt. Cuba Center’s land management and conservation projects.

You can even purchase a native plant or two — from northern barren strawberry to Brandywine foamflower.

While the festivities are undoubtedly fun, don’t forget to embark on an adventure through the garden. The meandering pathways through the garden will make you feel as though you’ve entered the pages of your favorite fairytale, and you’ll want to remember the sights and smells you’ll find here forever.

The event is free and open to the public, and you’ll find free parking for the event at the Red Clay Reservation at 1003 Old Wilmington Rd. Shuttle buses and a walking path provide access to the garden from the parking area.

Mt. Cuba Center is located at 3120 Barley Mill Rd., Hockessin, DE 19707, and is open Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. They are closed Monday and Tuesday.
