Right now is the perfect time to plan a Delaware getaway – the weather is lovely, the summer crowds are reduced, and fall lodging prices in many of the quaint Delaware towns are already down to their fall and winter rates. If you’re looking for a great place to crash for a getaway weekend, look no further than the following hotels, campgrounds and glampgrounds that are affordable enough for a last-minute weekend getaway.

The Boardwalk Plaza Hotel is a luxury hotel right on, you guessed it, the Boardwalk in RB. The hotel is comfy and clean, and is home to one of my favorite restaurants in Rehoboth Beach - Victoria's. Enjoy stunning waterfront views as you chow down on one of their delicious lunch or dinner entrees, featuring fresh seafood and seasonal vegetable selections. If you stick around for Sunday Brunch, the $3 mimosas and $5 menu, including oysters on the half will leave you full and happy.

These year-round cottages are the perfect place to hole up away from the world for a few days or a weekend. Curl up with a book and some hot cocoa and enjoy the serenity of Delaware Seashore State Park in the fall, when all is quiet and the air is crisp. You can't beat their off-season, price, too. With a gas fireplace, satellite TV, and a fully equipped kitchen, you could stay here for as long as you wanted.

The Inn at Montchanin is the perfect isolated Delaware getaway in New Castle County. Escape to Chateau Country and enjoy the rolling, scenic vistas. You can step away from the Inn to explore local sites, such as the gardens at Mt. Cuba, or you can stay holed up in your cosy room. Either way, you really should have dinner at Krazy Kats, the Inn's signature French restaurant.

At first, Dover Downs seems like more of a splurge than an affordable place to stay, but with the specials they run year-round, and the fact that it really is one of the best places to stay and play in Delaware, I thought it deserved a mention. Weeknight rates are low right now, so use up a few vacation days and have a little fun in Dover.
