You Won’t Want To Visit This Notorious Delaware Cemetery Alone Or After Dark

If you love learning about Delaware’s spookiest places, chances are you’ve heard of the historic Riverview Cemetery in Wilmington. While not as famously haunted as Long’s Cemetery in Sussex County, this eerie urban graveyard is one place you won’t want to be exploring after dark.

Wilmington's historic Riverview Cemetery is one of the most famous in the state. It is the final resting spot of hundreds of people, including five Wilmington mayors.

Delaware's first Community Mausoleum was built in 1917, and still stands today thanks to restoration efforts in the local community.

People have been buried here since it opened in 1872, and over the years, the size of the cemetery has grown as more space is added to fit those who are dying to get in.

Though this cemetery is gorgeous in the day, by night, it displays some terrifying qualities.

Visitors have reported hearing wails and cries from the dark and seeing ghostly figures. One man, dressed in old fashioned clothes, has been seen on only the clearest nights, looking for his long lost love.

So visit this historic cemetery during the day to see the past come back to life. Once the sun goes down, though, I would suggest high-tailing it out of there and finding yourself somewhere safe to pass the night.
