These 9 Foods Are So Delawarean That You Can’t Imagine Life Without Them
Everyone’s favorite Delaware foods will always remind you of home. See which of these iconic dishes you’ve had recently, and which ones you’ve been missing.
We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life. While we continue to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, please take proper precautions or add them to your bucket list to see at a later date. If you know of a local business that could use some extra support during these times, please nominate them here:
1. Peach pie
Delaware's official dessert is the peach pie! We were home to some of the country's first commercial peach orchards, and our love for the fruit has always stuck around.
The Delaware Bay is home to some of the world's tastiest oysters, and when our restaurants pull them up fresh, there's nothing better. Visit Delaware oyster houses like JP's Wharf to try one of our favorite Delaware foods.
3. Farm fresh ice cream
Vanderwende, Hopkins, and Woodside Farm Creameries have ensured Delawarean's have access to farm fresh ice cream all season long. With a variety of flavors made with fresh milk and local fruits, you'll have a hard time finding any sweeter treat.
4. Thrasher's fries - with vinegar.
Thrasher's fries - with vinegar, not ketchup - are a boardwalk staple. No summer day is complete without a bucket of them.
5. The Bobbie
Capriotti's signature sandwich helped put them on the map. The Bobbie is like Thanksgiving on a roll, and it's certainly something Delawareans have grown to love.
6. Blue Crabs
Maryland has a reputation for being the crabbiest state, but Delaware's crab houses make some of the best blue crabs you'll ever try. And hey, here in the First State, we don't have to deal with tourist-driven prices.
7. Dolles Salt Water Taffy
Dolles Salt Water Taffy is a boardwalk treat that everyone loves getting stuck in their teeth. Pick up a variety of flavors to snack on until your next trip to the beach.
8. Fisher's Popcorn
Okay, maybe Delaware really has a thing for Boardwalk food! Fisher's Popcorn is another thing we just can't go a whole summer without. There's nothing like fresh, hot, caramel corn.
9. Slippery dumplings
Finally, slippery dumplings round out this list. This Delmarva delicacy is unqiue because the dumplings are flat noodles, rather than big lumps of Bisquick. We think it's better our way.
