Sure, hiking in Delaware can be pretty mild when compared to our neighboring states’ many mountains. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of hiking trails in Delaware just waiting to be explored. Check out this compilation of some of the most scenic hikes in Delaware. For a real challenge, plan to knock them all out before the end of the year!
1. The Night Hike at Brandywine Creek State Park: 41 Adams Dam Rd, Wilmington, DE 19807

Delaware State Parks occasionally host "Starry Night" hikes at Brandywine Creek State Park. They're hard to come by, so be sure to watch the program of events at the state parks website to be sure you don't miss them. This magical hike will take you through the meadows and along the stone walls. You'll end your journey in the Hawk Watch parking lot, which features telescopes to help you get a great view of the night sky. This is such a unique experience that makes for an incredible night out.
2. Gordon's Pond / Junction and Breakwater Trail: Lewes, DE
The Bike Loop Trail at Cape Henlopen is such an entertaining hike in Delaware! Not only do you get to enjoy the nature and scenery of this beautiful 5,000+ acre-state park, but you'll stumble upon World War II bunkers, weapons, machinery, and more! Walking this trail is like taking a step back in time. It's no wonder that so many people consider this the best hike in Delaware.
4. White Clay Creek State Park: 750 Thompson Station Rd, Newark, DE 19711

The trails at White Clay Creek State Park are about as close to a moderate hike as you're going to find in Delaware. You can stroll around the creek for an easy day, or head up the trails towards the Maryland and Pennsylvania border. It does take some uphill trekking, but you can actually end up in all three states on a single hike if you choose to do so! This park is one of our favorite hidden gems in Delaware, and the trails are a great way to experience it.
5. Wildflower Trail at Mt. Cuba Center: 3120 Barley Mill Rd, Hockessin, DE 19707

The wildflowers, meadows, and gorgeous plants of the Mt. Cuba Center in Hockessin make for an unbelievable day hike. This is one you'll definitely want to take in the spring, when the flowers are in full bloom! Bring along a picnic lunch and set up your meal in the middle of one of the large meadows. Dining al fresco is such a relaxing way to take in all the sights. This is one of the best trails in the state to see beautiful wildflowers.

What are some more of the most scenic hikes in Delaware?
Looking for shorter hikes that won’t take up your whole day? Here’s a list of a dozen great short hikes in Delaware. They’re all under five miles in length, so you won’t get too tired, but they’re still a great opportunity to explore nature and get a workout in.
What are some of the best parks in Delaware?
Here in Delaware, we may have a small state, but we are very fortunate to have a number of great parks. One of our favorites for hiking is White Clay Creek State Park. It’s incredibly beautiful, and has even been called one of the most gorgeous places in the state… but did you also know it’s among the most haunted places in Delaware? Be careful next time you’re out hiking, you could see a ghost!
Are there any hiking trails with waterfalls in Delaware?
We’re not particularly known for our waterfalls in Delaware, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have any. One of the best places in the state to catch cascades is Alapocas Run State Park. It’s home to some of the tallest waterfalls in Delaware.
