You Don’t Want To Miss This Crazy, One-Of-A-Kind Festival In Delaware

Dewey Beach is the coolest little town in Delaware, and the Dewey Cinco de Mayo celebration is one of my favorite days of the year. Have you visited on the first Saturday in May? It’s no Kentucky Derby, but you will still want to catch the races that Dagsworth Beach hosts.

Dewey Beach is known for its stunning sunrises, amazing food, and one-of-a-kind parties.

It seems like the town is always coming up with a new event or festival, no matter what time of year it is. Next week is the Dewey-Rehoboth Bacon Festival, everyobdy looks forward to their fourth of July concert, and Dewey's beach bonfires are the talk of the town all summer.
In fact, Dewey is so well known for the events that it puts on that we recently called it the Coolest Little Town in America - don't you agree?

From the beaches to the fine dining, there's no place quite like Dewey Beach, Delaware, and the town is determined to keep up their reputation as the most fun spot in the First State.

If you really want to see Dewey Beach at its finest, mark your calendar for May 6th, 2017 at 11:00 AM, when the town will be running their annual chihuahua races to celebrate Cinco De Mayo .
The day is a full festival dedicated to these little dogs that have captured so many hearts.

There is a fashion show, too, which dog owners really get a kick out of. I've never seen so many small sombreros in one place!
The highlight of the day is the Chihuahua races, where these little pups get to run their hearts out.

There's no way to quite explain the thrill of cheering on your favorite tiny dog as they sprint towards victory. If your chihuahua is the fastest of the day, you'll win $100 - thats a lot of Milkbones!
There is a separate division for "wannabe" chihuahuas - tiny dogs under 20 lbs that want to prove their speedy little paws are worthy of competition, too.

In the past, mixed breed dogs and Jack Russell terriers were popular entrants in the "wannabe" category. The winner of this race is awarded $50 and a year's worth of bragging rights.
If you think you've go the top dog, register at the Lifeguard Station at Dagsworth Beach before 11 AM.

Register your pup for $20 - I'm not sure what the exchange rate is in Milkbones - and pick up a commemorative t-shirt, if you'd like. Proceeds from the event go right back to the community, so we can keep making Dewey Beach the coolest town that we all love.
