12 Quick And Easy Ways To Get On A Delawarean’s Nerves
Delawareans are easygoing people, but some things will get on our nerves! If you’re visiting the state or hosting a Delawarean, keep in mind a few things that you really should avoid. Please don’t do the following, unless you want to have a grumpy Blue Hen around:
1. Serve us round dumplings.
No thanks! Can we just have our slippery ones?
2. Call Delaware boring...
Lots of people think Delaware is just a drive-by state, if they even know where it is at all. There's so much to discover here!
3. ... and then rave about our beaches.
The same people who laugh about Delaware just being a stretch of I-95 rave about our beaches. You can't have it both ways! Either love the whole state, or stay away.
4. Stop walking in the middle of the boardwalk
The rules of the Boardwalk are the same as the rules of the road. If you stop walking in the middle, expect some angry Delawarean to bump right into you and grumble a bit.
5. Ask for ketchup when you order Thrasher's fries.
You can't even get ketchup with the best boardwalk fries. Boardwalk fries are served with vinegar - and once you try it, you won't go back.
6. Drive slow in the left lane
There are enough one lane roads in the state that when we finally get a chance to pass, you'd better not be in our way, going slow in the left lane.
7. Insult Delaware's seafood
Delaware's crabcakes can stand with the best that Maryland has to offer
8. Complain about beach traffic.
We all hate it, but whining about it won't get you downstate any faster. Try learning the back roads, so at least you can enjoy the ride!
9. Tell us Grotto's is the best pizza in the state.
There are SO many mom and pop pizza shops that put Grotto's to shame! Although... it is great to grab a slice at Grotto's when it's 2 AM and you're just heading home from a night out.
10. Crowd the Mall at Christmastime
If you're going to come to Delaware to take advantage of our tax-free shopping, at least do it early, so we don't have to fight through a crowd of out-of-staters in the weeks right before Christmas!
11. Make fun of slower lower Delaware
Only Delawareans can make fun of our rural side... and it's really lovely, you should explore it sometime.
12. Ask us if we know your cousin's neighbor's uncle's friend who lives in Delaware.
I mean... we probably do. But don't ask us, because that just makes us feel silly.
What are your other Delaware pet peeves? We can’t help it… we were born this way! Take a look at another list we’ve written up if you’re trying to understand First State culture:
